Just east of Tuscon, Arizona lies the Catalina Mountains. They consider driving up there like going from Mexico to Canada. Driving up there was an amazing experience.
Camping on the other hand, wasn't so much fun. After choosing a camping spot that only had 12 tent sites, none of which were occupied when we set up around 6pm, we went for a walk in the woods and the birding was amazing. All kinds of different species we've never seen. We decided we'll get an early night and get up at the crack of dawn to do more bird watching. At about 8:30pm a car showed up with 2 couples that seemed pretty friendly. I could hear the bottles in their cooler and guessed they'd be partying. They seemed to be quite far away so I figured we would be fine staying put (against Corrie's advice of course). While we're in bed we could only hear the group rarely when they'd all break out in a big laugh but it wasn't enough to bother us. About 11:30 pm another couple show up. They come out and all we can hear is them arguing like a nasty pre-divorce couple while they stumble past our tent to join the others. By 12:30 we hear what seems like to be a serious argument and a couple are back at the car and arguing about "I can't believe that bitch can talk to me like that...blah blah blah...I don't need to take that shit...." After a bathroom break and some calming down they return to their camp. Shortly after and lasting until 4:30am we listened to the whole group scream and yell and argue with each other like nothing I've ever imagined. We yell at them to shut up and are told to go to hell. The climax happened just before they finally all left but lasted for at least 20 minutes while some of them are right near our tent still screaming, yelling, crying, and having temper tantrums. We have no idea if this will soon turn to violence and we're even threatened that they will kick down our tent after. What a night! I have no idea what they could have been arguing about or how people can behave this way toward their 'friends'.
In the end, we only manged to get up around 9am but still went for a nice hike and saw tons of great birds and lizards including this one.
