The Apache Trail, Route 88 AZ, is also known as the Junior Grand Canyon and was one of the most spectacular drives I've ever taken.
It was extremely hot that day and I thought I was getting heat stroke. We almost camped at Apache Lake which was amazing but decided to press on. At first we were disappointed because the sites we looked at afterwards, near Rosevelt Lake, were nowhere near as nice and decided to go to Globe and get a hotel. We ended up not regretting the mere we payed for the motel especially since we would have ended up camping without running water which would not have been disastrous. It all went to hell when what first I thought was heat stroke ended up being a nasty case of Montezuma's Revenge!
