Brown Pelican. Tavernier, Florida Keys.
With animal cruelty abound in Florida it's hard to avoid supporting places that don't have captive animals used for entertainment or sell gator heads. Despite that we managed to see so much wildlife in their natural environments throughout the state. We saw about 30 bird species we've never seen before, alligators, crocodiles, opossum, armadillos, and we even managed see 2 Manatees (by accident) while snorkeling.
While cruising the Keys we dropped in for a visit to the Florida Keys Wild Bird Rehabilitation Center where this shot was taken. I recommend dropping in and/or helping them out.
If you want to see animals skip the zoos/theme parks and go to a national/state/provincial park or visit or better yet volunteer at a genuine non-profit wildlife rehabilitation center. It might take a bit more patience but any sighting will be far more rewarding for you, your wallet, and the wildlife.
