Road Trip Entry No.10:
This Turkey Vulture might as well have been holding a "Welcome to the Chihuahuan Desert" sign as we approached Big Bend. There were at least half a dozen of these on a Mule Deer that was sleeping on the side of the road. This is one of the most common birds you will see soaring in the skies throughout most of North America. Find out more about this ugly headed yet magnificent bird at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.

Contrary to popular belief the Turkey Vulture does not circle dead or dying aniamls, they are simply flying ... like birds do! Oh and another thing, they never kill any other animals, the native americans like to call them the "peace eagle".
